Kate Russell

Art Educator

Kate has been an artist and active humanitarian throughout her life. She began teaching art in elementary and junior high schools right out of Lewis and Clark College. Not long afterward she received her Masters in Child Development and worked for 6 years as a Child Life Specialist at Children's Hospital in Los Angeles. She moved to Ojai to start a family and became an Art Trek volunteer parent when her children entered Topa Topa school. Kate helped establish the first Art Trek program in the Ojai Valley in 1998, remained active as a docent, and came on staff in 2001. Along with her love of Art Trek, she has had the pleasure of serving on the board of the Ojai Valley Youth Foundation, helping lead a girls' after school mentoring program, serving on the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration Committee, and teaching after-school calligraphy. With her son and daughter now in college, Kate continues to enjoy helping children and adults think outside of the box in order to realize their natural artistic potential.
