Comical Critters
Supplies needed: 1 sheet of 8.5 x 11 paper or cardstock, pencil, eraser and colored pencils, markers, or crayons.
1. Look around the house for objects that could easily transform into a critter.
2. Draw or trace the object onto white paper with a pencil.
3. Study the drawing and decide where you could put an eye, nose, mouth, or other feature that would transform your object into a comical critter.
4. Add the features to your drawing.
5. Trace over your drawing with a dark marker and add color with markers or colored pencils to bring your critter to life!
P.S. To complete your Comical Critter, consider giving it a name or a title!

Color Wheel Tree
Supplies needed: 1 sheet of 8.5 x 11 paper or cardstock, pencil, eraser and media of your choice: colored pencils, markers, crayons, paint or watercolor.
Paint/Watercolor: be sure to have a paint brush, paper towel and water cup.
1. Using a pencil, lightly draw a tree trunk and branches on your paper. Use samples and examples below for reference.
2. Use your imagination and create a background for your tree. Where is it? In a forest? In your backyard? At a park? Draw the space around it.
3. Decorate your tree with media of your choice.
For younger students: Refer to the color wheels below and start by coloring in each section of your leaves with colors on the color wheel to create a rainbow from red to purple!
For older students/adults: With your media, add leaves of various colors, maybe add some apples or pears to your tree, etc. Think of the time of year and how the trees look, mix your colors according to the season. If you are using paint or watercolor as your media, use the color wheels below to color mix and create different shades for your tree, leaves and background.
P.S. Remember to sign your name at the bottom right corner of your artwork!

Come Sail Away!
Supplies needed: 1 sheet of paper or cardstock, pencil, eraser, dark crayon or sharpie and media of your choice: colored paper scraps, markers, colored pencils, crayons or watercolor.
Colored paper scraps: tear up different colored papers or cut them with scissors into designs, don’t forget your glue stick!
Watercolor: be sure to have a paint brush, paper towel and water cup.
1. Using a pencil, lightly draw a sailboat on your paper. Use samples and examples below for reference.
2. Use your imagination and create a background for your sailboat. Where are you sailing? Near land? In the middle of the ocean? Set the scene.
3. Trace over your pencil lines with a dark crayon or sharpie. (If you don’t have a sharpie, you can always use a black marker)
4. Decorate your boat with media of your choice. Imagine what it would be like to set sea in your sailboat!

Oaxacan Animals
(see art samples and ideas below)
Supplies needed: 2 pieces of copy paper or cardstock (8.5 x 11), pencil, eraser, black sharpie, paints, crayons or markers.
Using pencil on warm-up paper, direct draw a few examples of animals from below.
Once you have completed your warm-up, they lightly sketch your animal on cardstock or copy paper with pencil.
Then you paint or color in your animal. For the older crowd, paint the body and each leg or arm a different color.
(If using paint) Next, use a dowel to add polka dots, designs, or flowers to your animal using bright colors.
(If using markers or crayons) Next, use a darker color to add polka dots, designs, or flowers to your animal.
Remember, Sign your artwork on the bottom right corner!

Supplies needed: 1 long sheet of copy paper or cardstock (5 1/2” x 17”), pencil, eraser, black sharpie, crayons or markers.
Look at technology items below and choose 3 to 5 items to sketch. Consider the length of the paper and how to divide the space to use it well.
Sketch lightly with pencil.
Connect the items with a curly cord or curvy string!
4. Trace over all lines with Sharpie.
5. Color and have a giggle!

Beetle Mania
(see art samples and ideas below)
Supplies needed: 1 sheet of copy paper or watercolor paper, pencil, eraser, water cup, paint brush, paper towel, and medium of your choice: acrylic paint, watercolor palette, markers, crayons, etc.
Find a beetle you would like to draw by using the pages below, in nature or online. Once decided, use your pencil to lightly sketch out the beetle on your piece of paper. Remember to draw the beetle large to fill the page.
Once your drawing is complete, use your medium of choice to color in your beetle. Use colors from nature or jump into your imagination and try something new!
When you begin to paint or color, remember to start with the largest areas first. Then add details and highlights to watch your beetle come alive!

Supplies needed: 1 sheet of construction or copy paper, black crayon or marker, and medium of your choice. (i.e. tempera, watercolor, construction paper crayon, marker, colored pencil, etc.)
On your piece of paper, with a black crayon or marker, draw a slightly flattened circle.
Draw the moon with its bold facial features. Clouds and stars can be added if desired.
Then draw bold facial features and stylized rays on the sun.
Divide the background into 2 sections: day and night.
Color-in and Decorate! Remember: Use white sparingly for accents. Re-outline with black crayon to sharpen lines.
